Maths 20th April

Measuring
You need to use a ruler or a tape measure to help you with this work.

We could also say the lolly stick measures 10 centimetres and 5 millimetres or 10 cm  and 5 mm.

The millimetres are the small lines between the centimetres. Can you see them on your ruler or tape measure?
10 millimetres make 1 whole centimetre.
So 10 cm 5 mm or 10.5 cm is 10 whole centimetres and 5 millimetres from the next centimetre.

Can you find some objects from your house or garden to measure?
You could estimate (make a sensible guess) of how long the object is.
Draw a chart like the one below to complete your answers.

Challenge
Can you draw lines that measure:
9 cm
27 cm
22 cm and 3 mm
18 cm and 9 mm
20 ½ cm
10.5 cm
15.8 cm
