English – Tuesday 12th May

Poetry

Dear All,
This week we are going to use some on-line lessons from Oak National Academy to help us with our work. These lessons will help us write a poem. When you see the videos online they are from the week beginning 4th May.
You can use these websites to help you
Read this poem and then answer the questions.
The School Sound Collector

A stranger came this morning
Dressed all in black and grey
Put every sound into a bag
And carried them away

The patter of running footsteps
The nattering of the parents
The laughing of the excited, lively children
The ringing of the high-pitched bell

The squeaking of the new, rubber soles
The rustling of coats and bags
The humming of the flickering lights
The clicking of the stapler on the colourful displays

The tapping of the sharpened pencils
The scraping of the blue, plastic chairs
The greeting of the kind, caring teacher
The silence of the respectful children

The munching of the salty, crunchy crisps
The chewing of the scrumptious sandwich
The crunching of the juicy, red apple
The slurping of the fresh, cold water

The rustling of the tall, towering trees
The whistling of the wild wind
The tweeting of the small, blue birds
The chatter of friends in the playground

A stranger called this morning
She didn’t leave her name
Left us only silence
School will never be the same.
