Maths – Wednesday 13th May

Mental maths –  Try and do these in your head.
8 + 6 + 5 =
16 - 9 =
17 + 6 =
14 + 5 + 7 =
37 - 8 =
67 - 10 =
19 X 3 =
36 ÷ 4 =

Subtraction

Use a number line to subtract a single digit.
Look at this calculation.
132 – 4 =

The 4 has been partitioned into 2 and 2. This is so when we subtract 2 from 132 we jump back to a multiple of 10 (130).  Then we can subtract 2 from 130 which makes 128.

Now try these - show your working out on a number line

1.      376 – 8 =
2.      496 –7=
3.      543 – 9 =
4.      174 – 6 =
5.      535 – 7 =
6.      360  – 6 =
7.      432 – 5 =
8.      754 – 7=
9.      656 - ? = 648
10.    431 - ? = 427
11.    ?  – 4 = 568
12.     ? – 7 =196
